Olympic Hockey Gold Medal Game Live

The gold medal game for the men’s ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2010. Puck drop will be at 12:15 p.m. PST and the game will air live on NBC for United States viewers, and on all CTV stations in Canada including TSN, you can watch it streaming online at CTVOlympics.ca. Team USA will face Team Canada in the contest.

  • 16:00: iginla had a fantastic chance and Miller makes the save
  • 17:00: Doughty and Nash had a couple of good chances there for Canada but an accurate shot could not be made.
  • 18:00: Good effort by Dustin Brown of the Kings there to rag the puck and get a good chance
  • 19:00: 1st minute in and both teams trying to re-gain their legs, and a long pass attempt just misses for USA
  • 20:00: Underway here in OT
  • It’ll be a 20 minute overtime coming up. If neither team scores, then we go to a shootout. Shots on Goal through 60 minutes, 32-32. If Canada loses, do you think Sidney Crosby will regret missing that breakaway chance just a little bit?
Third Period
  • 0:20: SCORE!!!!! USA has tied it up – Parise gets it – with Langenbrunner and Kane on assists at 19:35 to knot it up at 2-2
  • 1:00: What a great game
  • 1:17: Goal is empty at the other end as Suter cvan’t get it to go and Luongo holds on – TIMEOUT USA
  • 2:00: Getting down it – USA needs to flood the zone
  • 2:30: USA needs to get possession in the Canadian zone and keep it – not just one and out
  • 3:20: Crosby denied on a breakaway
  • 4:00: USA needs to crank it back up again here
  • 4:26: Shot is stopped by Luongo on the outside of the goal.
  • 5:00: Less than 5 minutes not to go, 6 shots apiece this period on goal, 31-29 in favor of Canada
  • 5:05: Best chance for USA in the period as Rafalski had a chance at the faceoff circle and Luongo makes a big save
  • 6:00: Getting down to nail-biting time – USA has had great chances and given Canada great chances too…

  • 8:30: Parise tripped up, but there is no way that call is getting made right now – good no-call there
  • 9:00: Best 3 chances for Team USA this period and Ryan Malone missed the net on a great turnaround chance in front
  • 10:00: Halfway to go in 3rd period, and we’re still 2-1 Canada. Shots on Goals are 30-26 for Canada
  • 11:00: USA talking about maybe changing some line changes
  • 11:30: Suter with a blast and then gets blasted as Luongo makes the save
  • 13:00: Pronger has struggled during the tournament, but has played well today for Canada – giving Luongo clear looks which Brodeur didn’t get last week

  • 14:30: USA will need to eventually start taking some chances as the time starts to creep closer to end of period

  • 15:45: Miller with a big time save after he badly mishandles a puck clearing chance

  • Waiting for start of 3rd period – It’ll need to be a severely obvious penalty for a power play chance in this period. First five minutes will be critical for USA
Second Period
  • STAT PAK: For Team USA: SOG leaders: Patrick Kane has 4, then Zach parise and Ryan Malone have 3 each. Ice time leaders: Ryan Suter has 15:41 on 19 shifts, followed by Brian Rafalski has 15:12 ice time on 17 shifts, and Jack Johnson at 14:33
  • STAT PAK: For Team Canada: Eric Staal with 4 shots, 3 for Rick Nash, a bunch with 2. Wouldn’t be great if they had put Sidney Crosby together with Staal and Nash on a line together? Crosby Staal and Nash, get it? TOI: Scott Niedermayer playing like a 29-year old, not a 39-year old, leading Canada with 13:40 ice time, followed by DUncan Keith at 13:21, and Chris Pronger with 13:06.
  • 0:00: END OF SECOND – After 40, it’s 2-1 Canada. Shots on Goal are 25-23 for Canada.
  • 1:00: Last minute of play coming up… great chances again for USA but they can’t find the back of the net
  • 2:00: Rick Nash had a terrific chance feeding it in front for Richards but denied in front – USA 6 of 7 on offensive zone draws this period
  • 3:00: USA generated some great chances in the zone but Luongo was solid and then a little lucky – and then Canada had great chance with bouncing puck taken in front
  • 4:00: Suter just missed a chance on Luongo there – Team USA wants to get into 3rd period down one or even, can’t get too careful but can’t get too aggressive either
  • 5:00: 2-1 now in favor of Canada – shots on goal are 19-19, setting up a great 3rd period
  • 6:00: Great chance by Canada 3-on-2 but Kane did a great job on the backcheck to break up a chance for Crosby down the slot
  • 7:00: SCORE! USA is on the board and now trails 2-1 as Kesler tipped it home, great feed by Kane at 12:44
  • 7:30: Team USA needs to re-establish the forechecking that has made them hard to defend throughout the tournament
  • 8:30: SOG are 16-15 for Team Canada at this point.Canada has been the better team – fewer mistakes, better pressure, better on draws.
  • 10:40: Good chance there but Luongo makes the save and hold on for dear life
  • 11:35: Penalty coming on Toews for tripping at 8:25. This is a must score opportunity on the power play for Team USA
  • 12:47: SCORE! Canada takes a 2-0 lead as Corey Perry gets his 4th of the tournament at 7:13 from Getzlaf and Keith
  • 13:00: Great chance by Canada there as Perry had a big chance
  • 14:00: Good kill by Canada, doing a great job of standing up at the blue line
  • 15:00: Five minutes into 2nd period, still 1-0 Canada, Shoits on Goal are 13-10 in favor of Canada
  • 15:15: Penalty to Staal of Canada for Interference gives USA first power play chance
  • 15:45: Chris Drury has made about 3 blocks himself on this kill in front of Miller
  • 16:45: Couple of chances for Canada on the man-advantage but Miller equal to the task

First Period
  • Shots on Goal were 10-8 in favor of Canada – Eric Staal has 3 SOG for Canada, and Rick Nash has 2. Duncan Keith leads Canada in ice time with 8:00, followed by Niedermayer with 7:21. USA led by Ryan Malone and Joe Pavelski with 2 each. Brian Rafalski has 8:04 ice time to lead all players; Ryan Suter has played 7:23 for the Americans
  • 0:00: Great chance at the end of the period there as a pass in front could not be cashed in by Pavelski
  • 0:30: Team USA needs to make more effort to find room down the middle – Canada forcing them wide and they can win battles there
  • 1:30: Each team has attempted 15 shots, but only 10 have found their way through for Canada, while just 5 for Team USA
  • 2:00: Ryan Miller has made this game stay a one-goal defecit
  • 3:00: Canada doing a great job in the neutral zone and turning the USA over at the blue line
  • 4:00: Big kill there, and they just missed a chance by Ryan to take a head-man pass
  • 5:00: Big play by Suter to clear the puck – his uncle was member of miracle team – SOG are 6-5 in favor of Canada
  • 6:00: Penalty to Bobby Ryan for Tripping at 14:02 – huge penalty kill here for USA
  • 7:10: SCORE! Canada takes a 1-0 lead as Jonathan Toews puts home a rebound from a Mike Richards shot to make it 1-0
  • 7:30: Great action here – very frenetic
  • 8:30: Another couple of great chances for Canada there but they couldn’t cash it in
  • 9:00: Pavelski and Brown have been best USA forwards so far in terms of chances generated
  • 10:05: Luongo looked shaky on that one
  • 10:24: Approaching halfway point of 1st period, shots are even at 2-2
  • 11:00: Backes tries to clear zone but stick snaps and Richards gets it to Nash with a wicked shot but Miller equal to the task – best chance for either team so far
  • 12:00: Low number of shots but keep in mind a lot of shots were blocked – Mike Emrick and Ed Olczyk just made that comment as i waqs finishing typing it
  • 13:00: Crosby has not scored a point since the elimination game on Tuesday
  • 13:21: Canadian fans chanting Ryan Miller’s name – great chance by LA King Drew Dougthy but Miller made the save
  • 14:00: Big battle there between Backes and Thornton – it’s been a little bit of ‘firewagon’ hockey so far
  • 15:00: Five minutes in – no score – shots on goal are 2-1 in favor of USA, but both teams have blocked 2-3 shots in front of the goal mouth so far
  • 16:00: Both teams doing a good job of blocking shots in front of goalies
  • 17:00 Team USA needs to be careful of turnovers in the middle of the ice

2010 Vancouver Olympics

The men’s ice hockey tournament at the 2010 Olympics began on February 16, 2010, with a total of 12 teams. After each team completed the preliminary round, teams were seeded based on their win-loss record. The top four teams after the preliminary round, United States, Sweden, Russia and Finland, received automatic bids to the tournament bracket. The remaining eight teams competed in an elimination round, with the four winners moving on to the tournament bracket.
